Physiology of Low Temperature
Our research focuses on responses to low temperature exposure elicited by mammalian cell, tissue and organ systems and is divided in two parts: one is centered on the mechanisms of cell destruction in support of innovative cancer therapeutics (cryosurgery) and the second on strategies of avoidance of cellular damage following hypothermic and freezing exposure (cell and tissue preservation). These studies find particular relevance in cancer therapy, tissue engineering and cell therapies. Both projects depend heavily on cellular and molecular techniques with the goal of direct clinical translation. |
