Proteolysis in Plants; Proteomics of Multigene Families
The primary interest of my research group is the process of proteolysis in plant systems, and especially in the germinating seed and early seedlings. Our primary experimental organisms are the soybean (Glycine max), the garden bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) and most recently Arabidopsis thaliana. My lab seeks to understand the action of proteolytic enzymes in the mobilization of reserve proteins in these systems using a multifaceted approach, including the isolation and characterization of the proteases, the cloning their cDNA and genomic sequences, and the use of mass spectrometry to characterize the pathways of proteolysis, and the expression of protease multi-gene families. |
