Research Interests:

Molecular and cellular biology of a variety of systems

The research in my laboratory involves molecular, cellular and biochemical tools to study a variety of problems.  We are doing research on DNA binding proteins involved in cancer using a novel binding assay.  We are also applying molecular techniques to problems in DNA computing, an area where mathematics, computer science and biology cooperate to devise alternative ways to store, retrieve and analyze information.  We have in the past studied plant proteases and are developing a novel way to monitor their activity in living plants.  Finally, we have two new collaborations with faculty in chemistry to monitor DNA binding and to modify proteins with fluorescent tags.

See my website for more details on these projects: http://bingweb.binghamton.edu/~sgal/
